Augmentin 500 mg is a penicillin-type antibiotic, which contains 2 active ingredients - Amoxicillin 500 mg and Clavulanate potassium 125 mg. Such combination provides amoxicillin's resistance to beta-lactamase, expanding its spectrum of activity. The usual dose for most infections is 1 tablet q12h.
Generic Augmentin 625 mg
Augmentin 625 mg is a broad spectrum antibiotic, which contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanate acid as main ingredients. The strength of the preparation is indicated according to the quantity of amoxicillin, i.e. 625 mg. The antibiotic is also complemented with 125 mg of clavulanate acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which makes the drug more potent against penicillin- and cephalosporin-resistant bacteria.
What is Generic Augmentin?
Consisting of Clavulanate Potassium and Amoxicillin, Generic Augmentin is known to act against bacterial infections in throat and ears. That being said, many bacteria grow resistance over amoxicillin as they produce beta-lactamases. Here comes the role of the other major ingredient Clavulanate Potassium which is known to be a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Though there is no significant antibacterial activity present in Clavulanate Potassium as such, it helps Amoxicillin to work effectively.
What is the Dosage for Generic Augmentin?
This is available in both liquid and tablet format and you should take Generic Augmentin before a meal. Regarding the correct dosage, your house physician should be able to help you. Don’t take more than what’s required. If you miss a single dose, take it as soon as you can (Only if the next dose is not nearby).
What are the Contraindications for using Generic Augmentin?
Don’t take Generic Augmentin in case any of the below mentioned scenarios is true for you:
- If you are suffering from any type of bowl disease such as colitis.
- If you face any sort of trouble with your liver or kidney.
- If you have either phenylketonuria or mononucleosis.
- If you are planning a child or are already pregnant. Generic Augmentin should not be used during the time frame when you breast feed your kid as well.
- If your body is allergic to any of these: Penicillin, Clavulanic acid, Amoxicillin or Cephalosporin.
What are the Side Effects of Generic Augmentin?
Some of the minor side effects of using Generic Augmentin are: Stomach upset, anal irritation, headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea or vaginal irritation. However, there are other side effects which require serious medical attention such as: swelling of face, breathing troubles, unusual bleeding, dark urine, white patches in mouth etc.
