What is Sumycin?

Sumycin (tetracycline) is an antibiotic drug that fights a number of bacteria types within the body. This is a monograph medicine that can be classified as a protein synthesis inhibitor. To put it simply, it functions by binding itself to microbial ribosomes and prevents the emission of new amino acids, which are essential for bacterial formation.

What are the indications for using Sumycin?

As mentioned before, Sumycin is used for combating bacterial infections. These include:

Respiratory tract infection – an infectious disease such as pneumonia or the common cold which affects the upper or lower respiratory tract. Symptoms include coughing, runny nose, sore throat, fever, etc.
Typhus - a disease that has been plaguing the mankind since the Middle Ages, caused by the Risetta bacteria. In Greek, its name means hazy and corresponds to the patient’s state of mind. Typical typhus symptoms are delirium, rashes, back pain, fever and joint pain.
Cholera - a bacterial infection affecting the small intestine. It is spread mostly through food and water contaminated by fecal matter. Cholera is relatively easy to treat, but failure to do so often leads to death.
Syphilis - a sexually-transmitted bacterial infection, whose symptoms progress over time, becoming increasingly hazardous and even causing death in some cases.
Acne – a skin condition whose typical signs are pimples, nodules, and papules on the skin. While this is hardly a dangerous condition and comes naturally to the majority of teenagers, it blemishes the beauty of the human face.

There are several other infections not mentioned here which Sumycin is approved for treating.

What is the dosage of Sumycin?

Sumycin comes in the form of tablets of 250mg and 500mg.  The dosage varies depending on which condition is being treated, e.g. : the standard dose for treating acne is 500mg twice a day, once a day for respiratory infections and four times a day for treating Chlamydia. These pills should be administered orally and must be taken several hours before eating, as food can weaken its effects.

What are the contraindications for using Sumycin?
